
Adding insult to injury, students empowered by social media can spotlight poor IT performance and expose subpar learning experiences which can impede an institution’s ability to recruit top students. Given ever-present budget pressure, IT departments struggle to upgrade networks to meet the expectations of the extended campus community. However, high-speed network connectivity is required to fulfill these needs. Connected classrooms, efficient distance learning, open access to campus digital libraries, anytime/anywhere network connectivity and response times are all now table stakes for a modern educational experience. One key objective is to provide real-world computing infrastructure, real-time access to data, the Internet, and other resources to students via their device of choice – be it a laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
